Count up your house

Once again Amy from Let’s Explore provides us with an awesome little activity. She made up a downloadable sheet where kids can go through their home and count how many of each item (chairs, windows, bathtubs) there are. I don’t know about your kid, but Henry was so excited about this he could hardly stand it. “I can’t play right now!” he yelled to the neighborhood posse at the door. “I have to count things!” You can see from the scan that our sheet is getting kind of beat up. That’s because Henry likes to carry it around and refer to it often.

this reminds me of “my book about me,” which both of my brothers and i had growing up. there was nothing i loved more than counting windows and doors, and also answering questions about myself. for the question, “when i grow up i want to be a (blank)” i wrote down “mother.” then i crossed it out and wrote “millionaire.” interestingly, only the first one stuck!

Yay! I’m so glad Henry enjoyed the “house-count!” My girls have been asking me to make another “harder” one for them – maybe I should make them count light switches and outlets? 🙂

I have a parts list here I’d like to have him work on. Does he take consulting gigs?

This was Jayas homework last week!

Liz, I totally would have loved that kind of book when I was a kid. I still love filling out forms. There’s nothing more relaxing than having a whole bunch of health care forms to fill out (really!). Dave totally lucked out by marrying someone who actually thinks doing taxes is kind of fun (the ULTIMATE form).

Amy, Henry would be so thrilled if you’d do a harder one. Or just add more stuff. I think anything above counting the hairs I leave behind in the bathtub would be fine with him.

So I totally thought that this would be a hit and ran to Willem all excited saying I had the a super fun thing to do and he was so not into it. I really blew it on the set up.

Lisa, that’s so funny, because I was RIDICULOUSLY enthusiastic about it, and Henry got all whipped up in the excitement. I’m sure it totally depends on the day.
