Eli has randomly become obsessed with “Horse with No Name” by America. (The boys somehow changed the bedside radio to a classic rock station and Eli heard “Horse with No Name” and was riveted.) Despite the fact that it’s not one of my favorites (“Ain’t no one for to give you no pain”???), I finally relented and got it from iTunes (he’d been asking for “No Name for a Horse” for days). So I burned it onto a CD, put it on repeat in the living room, and I have to say, after three hours (literally) of “Horse with No Name,” it has kind of grown on me, and is providing just the right mellow groove for a rainy morning.

I LOVE “Horse with no Name”.
You and Eli will have to rock out next time you’re here.
You must have nerves of steel.
I’m thinking of running an intervention.
Shockingly, I have to say that it wasn’t that bad. It must be a total non-melody because I don’t even have it running through my head. And it’s much, much better than the time I set “Itsy Bitsy Spider” on repeat and came back an hour later to realize it was still on. It’s a 40 second song, which means they listened to it (hang on while I check my math) six billion times.
Well, you know: the ocean is the desert with it’s life underground…AND the perfect disguise above.
Oh, and Lillian’s current favorite is “When I Paint My Masterpiece” by the Grateful Dead-the indoctrination is working!
Our musical indoctrination is seriously hampered by the fact that all of our good music is on vinyl. We don’t have room to set up the record player, plus I can’t even imagine what perils would befall the records if we let the boys at them. But it does pose conundrums — should I buy all the Elvis Costello on CD? Or just wait until we get a better stereo setup? What about the Neil Young? Or — good heavens — the Yaz and Alphaville?
I think i need to send some other cd’s along with the berfday cd.
I am also newly concerned about the holes in their Stevie Wonder knowledge, after watching this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ul7X5js1vE. They don’t know Stevie from anything, which just won’t do. It’s all trapped on the vinyl. I think I have one cassette somewhere I need to dig out for minivan listening.
